Social Sciences and History
“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure.” (Isaiah 46:9-10)
It has been said that those who cannot remember their past are condemned to repeat it. Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly commands His people to remember their history so that they will be equipped and prepared to understand their future. The American patriot Patrick Henry once stated, “I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.”
Since a proper understanding of history is crucial to those who will write the history of tomorrow, Verity seeks to help students view time and events through the prism of God”s providence, giving substance and structure to the study of history. Recognizing the creative work of God as the beginning of history, and acknowledging His continued intervention in the lives of men, students are prepared to effectively communicate the truth of history to others. Individuals seeking to enter the field of education as a profession may obtain state licensure through a post baccalaureate teacher preparation program, alternate certification, or a Master of Arts in Education in their home states.
